1. Fare Costs
The TTC uses a flat fare system, meaning the cost of a single ride is the same regardless of the distance traveled or the mode of transportation (subway, bus, or streetcar). As of October 2023, the fare structure is as follows:
- Adults (20-64 years): CAD $3.35 (Presto card) / CAD $3.50 (cash)
- Youth (13-19 years): CAD $2.40 (Presto card) / CAD $3.50 (cash)
- Seniors (65+ years): CAD $2.40 (Presto card) / CAD $3.50 (cash)
- Children (12 years and under): Free
Transfers: A single fare allows unlimited transfers between TTC vehicles (subway, bus, and streetcar) within a two-hour window when using a Presto card or ticket.
2. Types of Tickets and Passes
The TTC offers several options for tickets and passes to suit different needs:
a. Presto Card
The Presto card is the most convenient and widely used payment method for TTC services. It is a reloadable smart card that can be used across multiple transit systems in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), including GO Transit, MiWay (Mississauga), and YRT (York Region).
- Cost of Presto Card: CAD $6 (non-refundable)
- Benefits:
- Lower fare rates compared to cash.
- Automatic two-hour transfer window.
- Easy reloading online, via the Presto app, or at vending machines.
- Can be registered for balance protection in case of loss.
b. Presto Tickets
For short-term use, Presto tickets are available. These are paper-based, single-use tickets that can be loaded with:
- A single ride (CAD $3.35 for adults, CAD $2.40 for youth/seniors).
- Two rides.
- A day pass.
Note: Presto tickets are not reloadable and expire 90 days after purchase.
